Kirklees RE-Charge Scheme

Yorkshire Energy Services was the managing agent for the ground breaking RE-Charge scheme on behalf of Kirklees council. The project helped fund the installation of domestic renewable energy technologies, such as solar panels and air source heat pumps, through an innovative second charge on properties.

A £10,000 interest free loan was provided to customers to cover their up-front installation costs. But unlike other finance packages, the loan was only repayable when a homeowner sold their property. In many cases Kirklees residents could access renewable energy systems for free or at highly subsidised rates.

The project sparked an influx of interest in Kirklees and hundreds of householders registered on the scheme. Yorkshire Energy Services’ solar subsidiary YES Renewables fulfilled the final leg of solar PV installations which concluded in the summer of 2011.

The Kirklees Re-Charge scheme was recognised at the regional Microgeneration Awards and won the Best Scheme / Policy award in 2010.
