Schemes and Projects

Kirklees Warm Zone

Yorkshire Energy Services managed and delivered the award winning Kirklees Warm Zone scheme on behalf of Kirklees Council from 2006 - 2010.

The 3 year 20 Million pound project was, at the time, the largest domestic insulation scheme in the UK that offered every home in Kirklees free cavity wall and loft insulation. Over 170,000 households were targeted saving approximately 55,000 tones of CO2 across the area.

Kirklees Warm Zone offered free insulation to private residents regardless of their householder income, circumstances or property size.  Four energy saving light bulbs, a carbon monoxide detector and a home energy report was sent out to every home on request. The project worked closely with other Kirklees services and helped refer people for free benefit and debt advice, fire safety checks, water conservation advice and support for carers.

Not only did Kirklees Warm Zone help reduce fuel poverty levels across the area, but won ‘Best Local Authority Sustainable Energy Scheme in the UK’ at the prestigious Ashden Awards in 2009.
