Loft Insulation in Leeds

Following her recent retirement, Sandra Basford from Leeds was looking at ways to make her home more energy efficient.

‘I knew that my loft had some insulation’ explained Sandra, ‘but when the man from the Gas board came to service my boiler he told me that I could do with increasing the depth of my insulation. I knew I needed to get it done, but it’s only when someone else points it out that you do anything about it.’

The Gas Board suggested Sandra contacted the council to see if they knew of any reputable installers. ‘I didn’t qualify for any grant and knew I would have to pay for the insulation myself, so I was looking for a good deal. The council gave me 4 different companies to try.’

Sandra contacted Yorkshire Energy Services and spoke to one of our energy saving advisers. ‘The girl I spoke to was very efficient and I felt straight away that the company was good. She arranged for me to have a survey appointment the following week, then later called me back to say they had a cancellation in my area and could fit me in sooner.’

Within 2 days Sandra was contacted by a surveyor who checked whether the loft was suitable for the insulation material. ‘The surveyor explained everything clearly and was very helpful.  Part of my loft is boarded out, so the surveyor explained that they would insulate as far as they could without restricting the access to my boiler. After talking I felt confident that the job would be carried out professionally.’

Sandra decided to go ahead with the work and booked an installation appointment. ‘Everything happened quickly and the installation team arrived the following week. Two men came, worked hard and just got on with the job in hand. They were only here for an hour or so and didn’t stop until it was finished. I was very happy with everything; they even put insulation on the loft hatch which was great.’

Sandra has noticed that her house is much warmer since having the loft insulated. ‘I have definitely noticed a difference, especially when you go upstairs into the bedroom. It’s fantastic! The bloke told me that I could turn my thermostat down which I have now reset to 19oc. Even on cold days I haven’t needed to turn it up as the insulation is keeping the heat inside. Even my Gas bill is cheaper than last year which I’m sure has something to do with the loft insulation.’

Since her involvement with Yorkshire Energy Services, Sandra has noticed that she has become generally more energy conscious. ‘I tend to go round the house now and turn things off. When I watch TV in bed I get up and turn it off at the wall rather than putting it on standby. It certainly raises your awareness when you see what you can save. It’s definitely been worth doing and I just wish I had done it sooner.  Yorkshire Energy Services were very efficient, had a good price and there was no bother at all. I would certainly recommend them.’
